I was so pleased to read the news in the city newsletter this week that the recyling program will start the first of March. And although the newsletter failed to mention the cost, I found it posted on the city's website. I'll be pleased to pay $3.75 a month to be able to have such convenient recycling. I already do all I can to recycle, and it has meant driving out of my way to do so.
In anticipation of the program, when I recently remodeled my kitchen, I included a trash roll-out that would hold two trash cans - one for recycling and one for other trash. I'm all set! I'll keep the list from the newsletter in the drawer just above the trash containers so I can always double-check if I'm unsure about what can be included.
This is a great move on the part of our city and must give kudos to the previous mayor and council for implementing it. I'll admit I was a little dubious and worried about the end cost since they couldn't quote the cost at the time. However, it has turned out to be very reasonable and worthwhile.
I'm sure they'll be dealing with the issue of people who didn't realize they opted in by not opting out. It was a sort of backward way of getting people to sign up. But we're in it now.
